McKenzie’s Story: From Foster Care to a Future of Independence

McKenzie is a young mother who aged out of foster care. FK Love Foundation and Fk Your Diet community have had the privilege of walking alongside her and her son as she has worked toward stability, independence and a brighter future.

In Her Own Words

It’s hard to put into words what FK Love, Fk Your Diet, their community and their volunteers have meant to my son and me. They didn’t just help us once. They’ve been there for us over and over again during some of the hardest moments of our lives.

When I couldn’t afford my electric bill, they stepped in so my son and I wouldn’t have to sit in the dark. When we needed food, they made sure we had groceries on the table. When I had a place to call home but nothing to put in it, they helped furnish it and even gave us a washer and dryer. They helped turn an empty place into a home for my little family.

For months, my son and I depended on buses to get everywhere. We would wake up before the sun to just make it to school on time. They saw that struggle and helped me get an e-bike so we could get around easier, and now they’re even helping me with a car.

What means the most is that they cared about more than just our financial needs. They checked on us, gave me advice, encouraged me and gave it to me straight when I needed to hear it. Before them, I was so used to struggling by myself that asking for help felt impossible. They taught me that it’s okay to lean on people who genuinely care.

Because they were there, I have been able to keep moving forward, grow, succeed and learn from my mistakes. They took some of the weight off my shoulders so I could concentrate on building a better future for my son and myself. I’ll never be able to thank FK Love, FK Your Diet, their community and every volunteer enough for believing in us when we needed it most.
